NEWS FROM HOMEWOOD

APRIL IN CARNEROS:

The weekend of April 19th and 20th is the 21st annual April in Carneros Open House. This special event is the time when over 20 wineries shine (each in their own unique way) to impress visitors with their fine wines. We do our best to show you why you should visit any time you can, and hope you return with friends and family you enjoy, but some of the smaller wineries are only permitted to open their doors during April and Holiday in Carneros. As the event includes both Napa and Sonoma it is a chance to enjoy the wide spectrum of wineries in this appellation. There will be food and wine pairings, music, local artisans and special tastings.
April and Holiday in Carneros is when we at Homewood Winery introduce our new releases (more on that later). Steve Stone, of Yucatan Sunset Catering, will be preparing complimentary appetizers to pair with these new releases. Samantha has invited some local artisans, and you can peruse their tables while you enjoy our many different wines. The price of admission is $40 per glass and includes an event tasting glass. If you pick up your glasses here we will include a $5 coupon toward any wine you purchase at Homewood. You can check at carneroswineries.org for a list of all participating wineries. A portion of the proceeds go to funding scholarships at Napa College and Sonoma J.C.
Thank You for your support!

SPRINGTIME IN CARNEROS: I pruned late again this year (just as the buds started to swell) to keep the vines asleep as long as possible. This is my only means of frost protection. The leaves are just now emerging, but we have had weeks of frosty cold nights and cool days. Things are moving slowly. As of this writing I do not know what effect this will have on the crop, but early emerging varietals, whites and pinot noir are most likely to show it. This is agriculture after all, and what farmer anywhere gets good weather all the time?

SPRING RELEASES: As stated above, April and Holiday in Carneros weekends means new releases here at Homewood Winery. The 2006 Carneros McHugh Vnyd pinot noir has bright red cherries and dried cranberries with a soft finish. Our 2006 Sonoma Valley Chapman Vnyd merlot is alive with fresh picked blackberries and supple lavender in the background…only 124 cases were produced. The 2006 Carneros Albini Vnyd cabernet franc has big black cherry with notes of pomegranate on the finish. My second syrah ever is the 2006 from Napa Valley. This is a cool climate syrah with lots of black currants and supple tannins. This one is my favorite new release, but Samantha favors the cabernet franc. Last, but never least, is our 2005 Sonoma Valley merlot port. It is blueberry pie with a dusting of cinnamon. This was our bottling crew's favorite!

APRIL SPECIALS: For the month of April only we offer two special priced wines. Both the 2005 Russian River zinfandel and the 2005 Knights Valley cabernet sauvignon are only $80 per half case or $120 per case! You can also mix 3 and 3 or 6 and 6 for the same prices. Prices are good while supply lasts or until the end of April. Both are really drinking well now, so enjoy!!
